별들에게 빈 소원은 나중에 반드시 이루어집니다.

단지 소원들이 별에게 갔다가 돌아오기까지 시간이 좀 걸리는 것 뿐이죠

당신이 잠든 동안 소원은 쉬지 않고 날아가고

별들은 그 이야기를 들으려 한없이 귀 기울여 기다리고 있습니다

그렇게 소원이 별의 거대한 손 위에 안착하면

그 자리에서부터 별의 거대한 귀에까지 긴 다리가 솟아오르고

소원은 다리를 건너 열심히 걸어가 당신의 이야기를 속삭입니다

이 모든 것은 우주의 깊은 숲 속에 저장됩니다

아침마다 새들이 부르는 노래는

간밤에 꾸었던 꿈의 어두운 면이랍니다

지구가 한 차례 돌면 절반의 새들의 부리는 위아래가 뒤바뀌고

꿈노래가 제자리로 오기까지는 다시 한 차례의 회전이 필요합니다

그렇게 뒤집혔던 꿈노래가 제짝을 찾을 때마다 하나의 알이 부화합니다

이 일은 달을 부화시킬 수 있을 때까지 멈추지 않고

그리하여 모든 은하계의 둥지에서 새들이 지저귈 때까지 

지구도 부화하기를 멈추지 않아요

이 모든 것은 깊고 깊은 우주의 숲 속에 자리하게 됩니다

되돌아온 소원은 반드시 이루어집니다

다만, 돌아오기까지 하나의 생애와 그 절반만큼의 시간이 걸릴 뿐이죠

그러므로 모든 인생은 

하나의 생애와 그 절반만큼 떨어진 곳에서 누군가가 빌었던 소원입니다

우리가 빌었던 소원은 미래의 누군가에게로 가서 이루어지겠죠

우리의 시야는

꿈꾸는 섬들 위로 쏟아지는 별빛의 극히 일부분만을 볼 수 있을 따름입니다

그리하여 별들의 얼굴과 우리의 얼굴 사이에서 길을 잃은 모든 빛은

깊고 깊은 우주의 어두운 숲 속으로 돌아갑니다

each wish that we make the future won't need to ask

and the starlight that beams through each island that dreams

is reflected so small in the eyes of us all,

and each light bounces back to someplace out in the black

from our face to its face deep in the forest of space.
