나이 든 예술가에 대한 이야기입니다

누군가는 명예와 명성을 위해 예술가가 되지요

하지만 어떤 사람은 그렇게 용감하지 못합니다

친구도 가족도 그에게 말합니다

'이봐, 그냥 취직을 하지 그래?

넌 대체 왜 그러고만 있는 거야

꼭 그렇게 별나게 굴어야 돼?

우리가 보기엔 니가 하고 있는 거 진짜 별로야

그런 걸 좋아할 사람은 아무도 없을 거야

우리 생각에 넌 그냥 문제가 많은 것 뿐이야

결국엔 그게 널 병들게 할 거야'

예술가는 꽃길을 걸으며

가만히 햇살을 느껴봅니다

깨어있는 시간엔 종일 그러고만 있죠

무슨 잘못을 저지르고 있는 건 아니에요

하지만 홀로 걷는 예술가의 등 뒤에서

누군가 비웃으며 지나갑니다

'저 사람은 자기가 무슨 예술가인 줄 아나봐

자기가 뭘 하고 있는지도 모르는 주제에'

그리고는 티비 앞에 둘러 앉아 떠들죠

'그래, 이런 게 진짜 재밌는 거지'

그들은 다시 예술가를 향해 말합니다

'저 친구도 좀 즐길 줄을 알아야 해'

들어보세요, 이야기를 하나 해드리죠

어떤 사람들이 명예와 명성을 좇는 동안

가만히 

세상을 바라보는 이들이 있습니다

some would try for fame and glory

others aren't so bold

and everyone in friends and family

sayin "hey go get a job

why do you only do that only

why are you so odd?

"and we dont really like what you do

we dont think anyone ever will

we think you have a problem

the artist walks among the flowers

appreciating the sun

he's out there all his waking hours

oh and who's to say he's wrong

but the artist walks alone

and someone says behind his back

"he's got some gall to call himself that

he doesn't even know where he's at"

and they sit in front of their tv

sayin "hey isn't this a lot of fun"

and they laugh at the artist

saying "he don't know how to have fun"
